Probably the most important step in successful marketing is figuring out exactly who your audience is. If you don’t know who you’re talking to then you won’t be able to connect with them very effectively. Tweet
Shooting in the dark will only get you so many new comers. Don’t waste your own time. Figure out who you want to walk through your doors and get specific.
Are they male or female or both? How old are they? Do they have families? Where do they work? What is their income? What are their beliefs? Do they have a favorite nonprofit? What kind of books do they read? Etc.
These answers will give you a lot of information on who they are so that you can figure out how to talk to them and get their ears to perk up.
“Well, what if I want to reach everybody?”
Aha! You win the question of the day award! And your prize is….drum roll please…you get the answer to your question plus a digital high five!
If you want everyone to walk through your doors then I recommend doing your research on one group of people at a time. When you have successfully maxed out your potential in the one group then move on to a different group and start over.
This still allows you to have the focus in your marketing plan to successfully connect with people while reaching everyone. And of course if you do well with the first group, word of mouth can be very powerful and you’ll see those outside your target group come to you.
Know your audience and strategize accordingly.
